NEARLY a thousand deaths from breast cancer could be avoided each year if short term survival rates in England were among the best comparable countries in Europe, according to research presented at the National Cancer Intelligence Network conference today.
The work of University of Alberta researchers and their teams has contributed to an important next step in finding a cure for deadly prion-folding diseases in humans and animals.
Dyax Corp. and Defiante Farmaceutica S.A., an affiliate of the pharmaceutical group Sigma-Tau, announced today an expansion of their strategic partnership for KALBITOR in the treatment of hereditary angioedema and other therapeutic indications to include development and commercialization rights in Latin America, excluding Mexico and the Caribbean, Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea.
A study published today in The New England Journal of Medicine found that in patients seen for heartburn unresponsive to treatment with Proton Pump Inhibitors, an extensive, systematic workup revealed truly PPI-refractory and reflux-related heartburn in only a minority of cases.
As this health insurance program for low-income people continues to place a huge burden on state budgets, governors are pressing for more flexibility regarding Medicaid's eligibility standards. The health law's expansion of this program — scheduled to take effect in 2014 — adds a sense of imperative to the conversation, as do the spending cuts being considered by Congress.
