A study from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), a government-backed institution, has found that "China's 'one couple, one child' family planning policy" has resulted in a gender imbalance that is the "most serious demographic problem facing" the country, the Times of London reports.
Trauma center care not only saves lives, it is a cost-effective way of treating major trauma, according to a new report from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Center for Injury Research and Policy. Although treatment at a trauma center is more expensive, the benefits of this approach in terms of lives saved and quality of life-years gained outweigh the costs. The study finds that the added cost of treatment at a trauma center versus nontrauma center is only $36,319 for every life-year gained or $790,931 per life saved.
After completing a collaboration with Philip Morris International to develop a "human rights implementation plan," the Danish Institute for Human Rights concluded that immediately stopping the sale and marketing of tobacco is the only way for tobacco companies to uphold basic human rights.
With an estimated 494,000 new cases per year, breast cancer is by far the most common cancer amongst women across Europe. Particularly affected are women with dense breast tissue because of the difficultly it can cause when trying to detect cancer early using mammography.
