Abiomed, Inc., a leading provider of breakthrough heart support technologies, today announced the final results from the PROTECT II study, presented by William O'Neill, M.D., Dean of University of Miami and Principal Investigator of PROTECT II, at the American College of Cardiology's 60th Annual Scientific Session and i2 Summit 2011 in New Orleans.
New research published in the journal Nature, could pave the way to world's first genetically modified human baby. The research involves making embryos with genes from one man and two women. There are hundreds or families around the world who are left childless or have serious ill babies because they carry genes for hereditary illnesses. This research may bring hope to such couples. According to scientists on the team, within the next three years these women will be able to avail such techniques. There has been skepticism regarding ethical issues attached to making of "designer babies".
Cancer treatments based on laser irridation of tiny nanoparticles that are injected directly into the cancer tumor are working and can destroy the cancer from within.
Roswell Park Cancer Institute research on the most potent form of vitamin D, commonly called calcitriol, offers new insights into approaches that may enhance the antitumor activity of this much-studied human hormone.
Hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy was well-tolerated and improved symptoms in patients with recurrent low-grade glioma, according to researchers from the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson.
