A critical biomarker of kidney disease may help predict clear cell kidney cancer - the most common form of kidney cancer - years before clinical diagnosis. Kidney-injury-molecule-1 can be detected in the urine and blood and is generally present at low levels in healthy individuals.
A project by Kansas State University interior architecture & product design students is giving individuals with prosthetic limbs a chance to add some personality to their prosthetic and show the students that their discipline goes beyond creating products or designing spaces.
With the goal of developing an accurate, powerful and fast method to automate the ana-lysis of bone strength, scientists of the ETH Zurich Departments of Mechanical and Pro-cess Engineering and Computer Science teamed up with supercomputing experts at IBM's Zurich Research Laboratory. The breakthrough method developed by the team combines density measurements with a large-scale mechanical analysis of the inner-bone microstructure.
Men treated with radiotherapy as well as hormone therapy for advanced prostate cancer were 43 per cent less likely to die from the disease, according to trial results presented at the NCRI Cancer Conference in Liverpool today (Monday).
VIVUS, Inc. today announced positive results from a phase 2 study evaluating the safety and efficacy of Qnexa®, an investigational drug, for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). VIVUS recently completed phase 3 development of Qnexa for the treatment of obesity and submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) to the FDA for that indication.
