Forty years after the National Cancer Act launched the "war on cancer," the battle is not just finding cures and better treatments but also being able to afford them. New drugs often cost $100,000 or more a year. Patients are being put on them sooner in the course of their illness and for a longer time -; sometimes for the rest of their lives.
A team of cancer imaging experts at Johns Hopkins has embarked on a five-year research initiative to speed development of early diagnostic tests and new treatments for breast, prostate and other common cancers.
According to a study that appears in the current issue of SCAN (Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience), researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine discuss how men and women differ in their neural responses to psychological stress.
"The AMNOG procedure has passed its first practical test. It is practicable and can also be implemented in detail", emphasized IQWiG's Director Jürgen Windeler in October 2011, when the Institute had published its first early benefit assessment within the framework of the AM-NOG procedure (AMNOG = Act on the Reform of the Market for Medicinal Products).
