Healthy people with high blood pressure who excrete a slight excess of protein in the urine raise their risk of developing kidney and heart complications. According to a study appearing in an upcoming issue of the Clinical Journal of the American Society Nephrology (CJASN), more attention should focus on the potential health effects of urinary protein excretion in individuals with high blood pressure (hypertension).
UCLA scientists have discovered a way to wake up the immune system to fight cancer by delivering an immune system-stimulating protein in a nanoscale container called a vault directly into lung cancer tumors, harnessing the body's natural defenses to fight disease growth.
Medications are the mainstay of treatment for epilepsy, but for a considerable number of patients — estimated to be as many as 1 million in the U.S. — drugs don't work. These patients suffer from a type of epilepsy known as refractory or drug-resistant epilepsy, in which drugs can't control their seizures.
Gov. Rick Perry's announcement that Texas will not pursue either of these two elements of the federal health law is drawing both national and regional headlines. But other GOP governors are delaying and mulling these decisions.
ConjuChem Biotechnologies Inc. ("ConjuChem") (TSX:CJB) today announced the completion of the transaction providing $5 million in new, non-dilutive capital to the Company. The Superior Court of Québec has approved the previously announced plan of arrangement (the "Arrangement") under section 192 of the Canada Business Corporations Act (the "CBCA") involving ConjuChem and Colabor Income Fund ("Colabor"), among others, all as fully described in ConjuChem's management information circular dated July 17, 2009.
