Administering antibiotics to adults hospitalized with an asthma exacerbation without any documented indication of lung infection appears to lengthen hospital stay, increase cost and result in increased risk for antibiotic-related diarrhea, according to new research presented at the ATS 2018 International Conference.
John Wiley & Sons, Inc., today announced a new publishing partnership with the American College of Emergency Physicians. From January 2014, Wiley will publish the society's newsmagazine, ACEP News, which provides the latest in clinical and industry news for emergency physicians throughout the United States.
Nucleix Ltd., a leading cancer detection and screening company, announced today that the multi-center European study results with its Bladder EpiCheck urine test for the detection of bladder cancer recurrence, were published in the European Urology Oncology journal.
The Associated Press terms it a "symbol" of the "federal government's budget dysfunction" because physicians again are facing a steep cut in Medicare payments unless Congress intervenes. This time, though, such action will be considered in the context of other difficult budget questions.
In the largest study of twins in schizophrenia research to date, researchers at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, estimate that as much as 79% of schizophrenia risk may be explained by genetic factors. The estimate indicates that genetics have a substantial influence on risk for the disorder.
