The combination of two neuroprotective therapies, voluntary physical exercise, and the daily intake of melatonin has been shown to have a synergistic effect against brain deterioration in rodents with three different mutations of Alzheimer's disease.
In a bid to reduce the smoking rates in Australia's indigenous population the Federal Government is launching the first anti-smoking campaign this Monday (today) aimed specifically at indigenous Australians. Figures have shown that nearly 50% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people smoke, and one in five die from smoking-related diseases. According to Government spokesmen the new campaign is part of its plan to halve the number of indigenous smokers by 2018. The radio, television and print campaign will cost $4 million and is part of the Government's wider aim to significantly reduce the number of Australians who smoke.
Continuity of care so that all patients see the same GP with whom they build up a relationship over time could help reduce delays in the diagnosis of cancer in primary care. In an essay published by the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, a team of primary care experts write that this, together with longer consultations and better distribution of information to GPs about referral pathways or new services could have a wide reaching impact on the early diagnosis of cancer and survival.
Labopharm Inc. today announced it has received notice from Sun Pharma Global FZE advising that Sun has submitted an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval to market 100, 200 and 300 mg generic versions of Ryzolt(TM) (tramadol hydrochloride extended-release 100, 200 and 300 mg tablets) in the United States.
