GlaxoSmithKline announced today that the Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee (ODAC) to the US FDA voted 11 to 2 that evidence from clinical studies support a favourable benefit – risk assessment for use of Votrient in treating patients with advanced soft tissue sarcoma who have received prior chemotherapy, noting that those with gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) and adipocytic sarcomas were not included in the Phase III trial.
A virus that has been specifically designed by scientists to be safe to normal tissue but deadly to cancer is showing early promise in a preliminary study, researchers said at the ESMO Conference Lugano (ECLU), Switzerland.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 1,900,000 people contract infections in hospitals, (Hospital Acquired Infections - HAIs) every year and well over 99,000 die as a result; more deaths than from AIDS, breast cancer and auto accidents combined.
In a study of screening mammography-detected breast cancers, patients who had more frequent screening mammography had a significantly lower rate of lymph node positivity—or cancer cells in the lymph nodes—as compared to women who went longer intervals between screening mammography exams.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced its selection of Emergency University and HeartSine Technologies to provide nationwide Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and program management for ERT members.
