Though the number of children dying of preventable and treatable diseases worldwide has dropped significantly since 1990, there is "realistic hope for much more" progress, particularly if "improved hygiene and sanitation ... play a key role in the next stage," Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, and Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever, write in the Huffington Post's "Global Motherhood" blog.
Johnson & Johnson today announced that its Family of Companies has formed the Johnson & Johnson Institute to provide comprehensive professional education focused on helping healthcare professionals improve outcomes, increase patient satisfaction and reduce costs in a value-based care environment.
A team of scientists at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center has created the first genetic research model for a microscopic part of the eye that when missing causes blindness. The research appears in a recent issue of the Journal of Biological Chemistry.
A federal judge in Texas Monday partially blocked an abortion law there that would have required abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals in order to perform the procedure - a move that abortion rights advocates say would have shuttered nearly all the state's abortion clinics.
