BioScrip, Inc. today announced 2011 third quarter financial results. Revenue for the three months ended September 30, 2011 was $454.0 million and net income was $0.5 million, or $0.01 per diluted share, including $5.0 million in restructuring charges, severance and other employee costs.
Seven states that are suing the federal government to throw out the health overhaul are also readying to take subsidies that will help them afford medical costs for retirees, The Associated Press reports. "An administration official said Tuesday seven states suing the federal government are among 16 already approved for subsidies to help with the health care costs of early retirees. The seven are Arizona, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska and Nevada."
Noting World Bank President Jim Yong Kim at the World Knowledge Forum last month "spoke of the need to 'lay the foundations for a new field that will collect and distribute practical knowledge that countries can use to get delivery right in their unique contexts,'" Wolfgang Munar, a senior program officer in the Family Health Division at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Larry Prusak, an advisor on knowledge networks for the Foundation, examine in the organization's "Impatient Optimists" blog why "practical knowledge is a topic worth exploring and better understanding for business, governments and philanthropies."
The ALSAM Foundation recently invested an additional $2 million to continue the Therapeutic Innovation Grants Program at the CU Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
