Oral administration of a cocktail of three viruses, all of which specifically kill cholera bacteria, prevents infection and cholera-like symptoms in animal model experiments, report scientists from Tufts University School of Medicine and the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences at Tufts in Nature Communications on Feb. 1.
A study suggests that school-based prevention programs begun in elementary school can significantly reduce problem behaviors in students. Fifth graders who previously participated in a comprehensive interactive school prevention program for one to four years were about half as likely to engage in substance abuse, violent behavior, or sexual activity as those who did not take part in the program.
According to a prominent Australian researcher unsafe abortions continue to be a leading cause of death for pregnant women worldwide and too many women still die from unsafe abortions.
Most expectant mothers enjoy optimistic dreams of delivering a healthy baby and soon leaving the hospital with their new bundle of joy.
Cosmetic surgery techniques, such as having a patient sit or stand while incision sites are marked so they blend into natural lines of the body, can improve the aesthetic result of thyroid surgery as well, researchers say.
