Scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) have shown that a well-known cancer-causing gene implicated in a number of malignancies plays a far more critical role in non-small cell lung cancer, the most common form of the disease, than previously thought.
Smokers who are exposed to wood smoke, either through home heating and cooking or through ambient neighborhood pollution, are not only at increased risk of COPD, but are also more likely to have epigenetic changes in the DNA that further increase their risk of COPD and related pulmonary problems.
ChemDiv, Inc. announced the expansion of its drug discovery collaboration with Eli Lilly through 2010. Under the terms of the agreement, the partners will identify and develop leads for an additional therapeutic target using ChemDiv's small molecule resources (the industry's largest commercial collection) and Discovery outSource™ drug discovery and development platforms.
