GE Capital and GE Healthcare, the financial services and healthcare divisions of General Electric Company, announced today an investment in C8 MediSensors, Inc., a privately held developer of non-invasive continuous glucose monitors for diabetic patients.
Type 1 diabetes is a genetically-driven autoimmune disease of pancreatic beta-cells, whose origins remain unknown. Researchers at the Boston Medical Center (BMC) and Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) discovered that skin cells from patients with type 1 diabetes display abnormal activity triggered by immune response mechanisms to environmental stimuli like a viral infection.
InvoTek, Inc., a research and development company in Alma, Arkansas, has launched a new product using safe laser technology that enables a person with limited movement to write, communicate, and control their environment. The product will be unveiled at the Abilities Expo 2011 in Newark, New Jersey on Friday, May 20, 2011.
The number of babies born as a result of assisted reproduction technologies (ART) has reached an estimated total of 5 million since the world's first, Louise Brown, was born in July 1978. The figures will be presented this week at the 28th annual meeting of ESHRE (European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology), which begins today, 1st July, in Istanbul, Turkey.
