AvidBiotics Corp. announced the issuance of foundational patents encompassing a completely novel mechanism for generating massive diversity within precisely targeted sites of protein-encoding DNA sequences. The technology platform is referred to as Diversity Generating Retroelements (DGR) and patents were issued in both the United States (#7,585,957) and in Europe (#1,173,995). UCLA and AvidBiotics Corp are co-assignees of the patents, and AvidBiotics holds exclusive, worldwide rights to the patents from UCLA.
As part of its Achieve HIT stimulus program for physicians, McKesson today announced a limited-time offer to reduce the cost barriers associated with independent physician adoption of electronic health records (EHRs). Physicians may choose from two options on selected EHR/practice management solutions – 0% interest for 12 months with a 25% down payment, or a $1,000 cash rebate for the first provider with a $500 cash rebate for each additional provider in a practice.
A new study has shown that products made of fermented soy such as miso and soy sauce can help individuals live longer. The study titled, "Association of soy and fermented soy product intake with total and cause specific mortality: prospective cohort study," was published in the latest issue of the journal British Medical Journal.
"The presentations at this year's IMPAKT reveal the innovative and diverse approaches that investigators are taking to identify the most encouraging new agents both before clinical evaluation and in early clinical studies. These range from ideas for novel clinical designs to the development of more sensitive and specific biomarkers and to data sharing that allows a more objective assessment of compounds prior to commitment of major clinical resources."
