In an investigation published in the current issue of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics a group of German investigators provides the largest survey of mental disorders in cancer. Psychological problems are common in cancer patients.
Seattle Genetics, Inc. today announced that the Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee (ODAC) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted 10-0 to recommend that the FDA grant accelerated approval of ADCETRIS™ (brentuximab vedotin) for the treatment of patients with Hodgkin lymphoma who relapse after autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT).
Kinetic Concepts, Inc. today reported second quarter 2010 total revenue of $497.8 million, an increase of 1% from the second quarter of 2009 and up 2% from the first quarter of 2010. Total revenue for the first half of 2010 was $983.6 million, a 2% increase from the prior-year period. Unfavorable foreign currency exchange movements reduced total revenue for the second quarter of 2010 by less than 1%, while favorably impacting total revenue for the first six months of 2010 by 1% compared to the corresponding periods of the prior year.
A specific gene region has long been suspected of contributing to obesity in humans but the precise mechanisms behind this were previously unclear. Now, researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard Medical School and other partners have been able to show that a single genetic alteration in this region reduces thermogenesis (fat burning), instead increasing lipid storage.
