Researchers from King's College London have created 3D replicas of full-sized healthy adult hearts from Computed Tomography (CT) images and analyzed how cardiac shape relates to function.
Alimera Sciences, Inc. (Alimera), a biopharmaceutical company that specializes in the research, development and commercialization of prescription ophthalmic pharmaceuticals, today announced that it has resubmitted its New Drug Application for ILUVIENĀ® to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
A failing heart makes a lot of a hormone needed to eliminate the excess salt and water bloating the body but not enough of the enzyme needed to activate it, researchers say.
Reducing tuberculosis transmission in geographic "hotspots" where infections are highest could significantly reduce TB transmission on a broader scale, according to a study led by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. An analysis of data from Rio de Janeiro showed that a reduction in TB infections within three high-transmission hotspots could reduce citywide transmission by 9.8 percent over 5 years, and as much as 29 percent over 50 years. The study was published May 28 by the journal PNAS.
Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings announced today the nationwide availability of a new FDA cleared risk stratification tool (ROMA, Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm) that combines the results for Fujirebio HE4, Abbott's ARCHITECT CA 125 II, and menopausal status into a numerical score that, along with clinical and radiological evaluation, can aid in evaluating whether a woman over the age of 18 who presents with an ovarian mass and for whom surgery is planned is at high or low likelihood of finding malignancy on surgery.
