Now a team of researchers shows that smaller area will mean not only fewer species, but also shorter food chains. This implies that plant and animal communities on small islands may work differently from those on large ones.

New statistics show a big increase in the number of cancers detected by breast screening. In 2003/04 over 14% more cancers were detected compared to the previous year with over 11,000 women having breast cancer detected and treated following screening for the disease. Since 2001 the total number of cancers detected through breast screening has risen by nearly a third.
Cancer-related fatigue is often a major problem for cancer patients, beginning at diagnosis, during treatment and after completing therapy. Researchers at Mayo Clinic and the North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG) recently completed a study testing methylphenidate in the treatment of cancer-related fatigue and found that, while it did not improve fatigue for a broad group of patients, the data did not rule out a benefit for those with stage III/IV cancer.
