Insulating houses can significantly improve health and reduce days off work and school, according to a new study in this week's British Medical Journal.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Zika virus infection a global threat during the peak of its outbreak in 2016. Since then, scientists and health experts raced to understand the virus better to develop novel and effective vaccines and treatments for the disease. Now, a team of researchers in China revealed how a protein in the virus reshapes its host to boost viral replication.
According to the team of researchers from the University of Oxford, height was not associated with the overall prostate cancer risk, but, with the addition of every 10 cm (3.9 inches) of height, the risk being diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer and then death caused due to the disease increases by 21% and 17% respectively.
Many viral infections are nipped in the bud by the innate immune response. This involves specific proteins within the infected cell that recognize the virus and trigger a signalling cascade - the so-called interferon response. This activates a protective mechanism in neighbouring cells and often results in the death of the primarily infected cell.
