The whole school workforce should be educated in food, nutrition and healthy eating, if the government's School Food Plan is to be a success, according to research produced by Sheffield Hallam University's new Institute of Education.
The University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (UMBI) today announced the exclusive licensing of a fully human antibody technology platform to Prolias, a biotechnology company working to discover and develop novel therapeutic proteins and antibodies for treatment of disease.
"In recent weeks, the emergence on the Thai-Myanmar border of malaria strains resistant to artemisinin, a plant-derived drug, have led to pessimistic headlines and reminders of the setback caused by resistance to the drug chloroquine, which began in the 1950s," columnist and author Matt Ridley writes in the Wall Street Journal's "Mind & Matter," noting, "April 25 is World Malaria Day, designed to draw attention to the planet's biggest infectious killer."
Negotiations to avert a breakdown in Maryland's unique system of regulating hospital prices have deteriorated into a stalemate between the state's largest insurer and the Maryland Hospital Association. CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield CEO Chet Burrell, speaking out for the first time about the talks, blames hospitals for their proposal to shift hundreds of millions in costs to CareFirst and other private insurers in an attempt to control rising Medicare spending.
