In a new study led by Yale Cancer Center, researchers have discovered a novel metabolic gatekeeper mechanism for leukemia.
A scientific "Renaissance man" whose work spans the fields of mathematics, linguistics, biotechnology and polymer physics, Erez Lieberman-Aiden, graduate student at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, has been named the winner of the prestigious $30,000 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize. Lieberman-Aiden, one of four 2010 $30,000 Lemelson-MIT Collegiate Student Prize winners announced today, was selected for the breadth and depth of his innovations.
American children learn the meanings of number words gradually: First they understand "one," then they add "two, "three," and "four," in sequence. At that point, however, a dramatic shift in understanding takes place, and children grasp the meanings of not only "five" and "six," but all of the number words they know.
While nurses may lose their jobs to make the figures for the NHS seem more efficient there is a good chance of it affecting actual performance. The NHS needs to save £20bn by 2014. That would be a saving of 5% of its budget. The easiest way to do this would be by enforcing job cuts of health staff and thousands of nursing jobs are at risk as per the Royal College of Nursing general secretary, Peter Carter.
