In this Kaiser Health News column, Timothy Jost writes: "The new health reform act has been widely criticized as a federal government takeover of the health care system. To a remarkable degree, however, the law actually relies on the states to reform health insurance" (7/15).
The federal government will offer $235 million in grants for communities to upgrade and improve their health information technology, The Dallas Morning News reports. Only organizations that are already using health IT are eligible. Health secretary Kathleen Sebelius said, "Our hope is that the communities will become models for the rest of the country" (Roberson, 12/2).
Infectious diseases such as Zika and Dengue remain a top contributor to death and disability across the globe, according to the World Health Organization.
Many heart transplant patients develop multiple skin cancers, with increased risk for some skin cancers among patients with other cancers and with increasing age, according to a report in the December issue of Archives of Dermatology, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
