One out of five adults suffers from chronic pain and half of all patients have been suffering for at least seven years (median). Patients usually go through an odyssey of examinations and treatments while long term relief becomes a hope rather than an expectation.
According to a study published Thursday, a brief screening in a pediatrician's office can detect autism-like symptoms in children as young as 12 months old, giving them an important head start on treatment. The screening test used in the study also flagged some babies who later turned out to be developing normally, raising a false alarm for families. But early diagnosis and treatment of autism and other developmental delays are thought to improve outcomes, and researchers said the benefits of early intervention outweighed the downsides.
Sanofi announced today new Phase II data showing that treatment with a novel, investigational, selective JAK2 inhibitor (SAR302503) reduced spleen size and improved constitutional symptoms in patients with intermediate-2 or high-risk primary or secondary myelofibrosis (MF), a hematologic malignancy with unmet medical needs.
"The justices on Monday denied an appeal from the Golden Gate Restaurant Association of an appeals court ruling upholding the program's requirement that employers help pay the bill or give their workers health coverage," The Associated Press reports. The decision allows the program to maintain its emphasis on sharing the financial responsibility for health care — a cost borne by the public, employers and employees, said Tangerine Brigham, director of Healthy San Francisco.
