The C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, in collaboration with the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics, the Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Institute for Environmental Health Sciences, installed a Genomatix Mining Station and a Genomatix Genome Analyzer last year at their labs in Detroit, MI in order to support the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data.
Lung cancer is the No. 1 cause of cancer deaths in the United States, despite the fact it is largely preventable. For people at high risk of developing lung cancer, such as current or former longtime smokers, screening for the disease with low-dose CT scans is now a viable option that has been shown to significantly reduce mortality rates. In conjunction with National Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) wants to raise awareness about the importance of prevention and early detection for at-risk populations.
The JOBS Act is doing its job and getting more startups to go public, according to a new study from the University at Buffalo School of Management.
Pharmalink AB, a privately held Swedish pharmaceutical company, has received orphan drug designation by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its product candidate Nefecon (PL-56) for patients with IgA nephropathy, also referred to as Berger's Disease. The awardees will be honored at a ceremony on Capitol Hill, where they will receive their awards from a bipartisan group of Members of Congress.
