Geneticists have discovered that a gene involved in the modification of ribonucleic acid (RNA) is mutated in a significant proportion of people with a collection of blood cancers called myelodysplastic syndromes.
In the field of cell biology in particular, a wide variety of samples including nucleic acid or protein samples have to be preserved for longer periods of time. At temperatures down to – 86°C, samples often remain frozen for several weeks up to several years. 100% reliability of the cooling system is essential. Otherwise, any interruption could result in the complete loss of the research results, requiring the results to be recreated, which costs time and money.
Hospital practices, such as supplementing newborns with formula or water or giving them pacifiers, significantly reduce the chances that mothers who intend to exclusively breastfeed will achieve that intention, according to a new study led by a Boston University School of Public Health researcher.

In the first study to look at sex-specific pain prevalence in Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) Veterans, researchers from the VA Connecticut Healthcare System and the Yale University School of Medicine found women Veterans had a lower prevalence of pain than male counterparts returning from the conflicts. Approximately 60% of OEF/OIF Veterans were assessed with pain during the study period.
