The process of metastasis - a tumor's ability to spread to other parts of the body - is still poorly understood. It is not easy to determine whether metastasis began early or late in the development of the primary tumor or whether individual metastatic sites were seeded directly from the original tumor or from an intermediate site.
Researchers at University of California San Diego School of Medicine say tiny micro-vesicle structures used by neurons and other cells to transport materials internally or dispose of them externally carry tell-tale proteins that may help to predict the likelihood of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) developing into full-blown Alzheimer's disease (AD).
The European Society for Medical Oncology, the leading pan-European organisation representing medical oncologists, announced the names of outstanding individuals receiving the Society's esteemed annual awards, to be presented during the ESMO 2014 Congress, on 26 September, in Madrid.
Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited and Natrogen Therapeutics International, Inc. jointly announced today an agreement whereby Takeda will acquire an exclusive license to develop Natrogen's Natura-alpha compound as well as an option to acquire Natrogen. Natura-alpha is a synthetic small molecule oral compound that is believed to inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokine expression, which may help to reduce gastrointestinal inflammation. Natura-alpha is currently in Phase 2 development for the treatment of ulcerative colitis.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center is featured in three pilot episodes of a new series titled Emergency Level 1 on TLC.
