A new study suggests that fetal alcohol exposure reduces the taste system's responsiveness to the bitter flavor and burning sensation of many varieties of alcoholic beverages.
Sulforaphane, one of the primary phytochemicals in broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables that helps them prevent cancer, has been shown for the first time to selectively target and kill cancer cells while leaving normal prostate cells healthy and unaffected.
Fear is an adaptive response, essential to the survival of many species. This behavioural adaptation may be innate but can also be a consequence of conditioning, during the course of which an animal learns that a particular stimulus precedes an unpleasant event. There is a large amount of data indicating that the amygdala, a particular structure in the brain, is strongly involved during the learning of "conditioned" fear. However, until now, the underlying neuronal circuits have remained largely unknown.
Huron debuts its new ‘Scan Index Search' platform, connecting pathologists, researchers and educators with the expertise of their colleagues.
Above average or high BMI - often linked to cancers, diabetes, cardiovascular and other diseases - may in some cases improve the chance of survival among certain cancers, new research from Flinders University indicates.
