PLC Systems Inc., a company focused on innovative cardiac and vascular medical device-based technologies, today announced that updated results from the MYTHOS investigator-sponsored clinical trial of RenalGuard(®) were presented at the American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Sessions 2009, on Sunday, November 15 in Orlando, Florida.
Researchers report that performing angioplasty (a treatment that involves temporarily inserting and blowing up a tiny balloon inside a clogged artery to help widen it) on veins in the neck and chest is safe—and may be an effective way to treat the venous abnormalities found in those with multiple sclerosis and provide symptom relief.
The researchers said that their findings support developing early treatments that aim to reduce levels of prion protein in the brains of people with prion disease.
HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is scheduled to address the Annual Meeting of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) in Vienna, Va. today.
