The alarming increase of morbidly obese diabetics is causing more new cases of a debilitating foot deformity called Charcot foot.Charcot foot can make walking difficult or impossible, and in severe cases can require amputation.But a surgical technique that secures foot bones with an external frame has enabled more than 90 percent of patients to walk normally again.
In this Huffington Post opinion piece, Serra Sippel, president of the Center for Health and Gender Equity, examines the Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon partnership, which was launched last month by PEPFAR in conjunction with the George W. Bush Institute, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and UNAIDS with the aim of "integrating cervical and breast cancer education, screening, and treatment with HIV services."
The search for effective inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 is assuming new urgency as the fall/winter resurgence of the infection appears.
"The Obama administration and Congress should continue efforts to strengthen the safety of America's drug supply and, simultaneously, coordinate a global response to the problem of counterfeit drugs," Thomas Kubic, president & CEO of the Pharmaceutical Security Institute and a former deputy assistant director at the FBI, writes in a post on The Hill's "Congress Blog," where he describes the health risks associated with such drugs.
When researchers examined information on pairs of kidneys from the same donor in which 1 kidney was used but the other was discarded, the kidneys that were used tended to perform well even though they were similar in quality to their partner kidneys that were not used.
