Huntington's disease is a fatal, inherited neurodegenerative disorder for which there is no cure and usually affects people in their 30s and 40s, but some patients are affected as early as childhood, while others aren't affected until they are older.
Using advanced microscopes equipped with tissue-penetrating laser light, cancer imaging experts at Johns Hopkins have developed a promising, new way to accurately analyze the distinctive patterns of ultra-thin collagen fibers in breast tumor tissue samples and to help tell if the cancer has spread.
In today's economy, traveling to see renowned educators and authors speak at national conferences and seminars is no longer an option for many K-12 educators. Beginning this month, however, educators will have the opportunity to hear from nationally recognized experts in education, technology and neuroscience with the launch of a new series of Virtual Brain Seminars presented by Scientific Learning, makers of the Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant family of products.
Cerapedics, a privately-held orthobiologics company, today announced closing of a $4 million term loan from GE Capital, Healthcare Financial Services, bringing the total facility to $16.5 million. The company also announced it recently raised an additional $4 million in equity financing from inside investors.
Over 50 patients at a private radiology clinic were given blood tests using a needle device meant for single-patient use. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter. These patients are all at risk of hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV infection. These cancer patients will need testing for the viruses, and again in three months. They had visited the hospital for a positron emission tomography (PET) scan for cancer detection.
