As part of the EU "ID Lyme" project, the infection immunology working group at the Institute for Hygiene and Applied Immunology at the Center for Pathophysiology, Infectiology and Immunology at the Medical University of Vienna is working on developing of a new test for early detection of Lyme disease (borreliosis).
A new oral drug significantly reduced menstrual bleeding for women with the most common gynecologic tumors in the United States - benign tumors that disproportionately affect African-Americans, an international clinical trial found.
To enhance the diagnostic capabilities of ultrasound and improve patient care, Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Mich., has installed the first Aplio 500 ultrasound system from Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. Aplio 500 offers advanced visualization capabilities, workflow automation tools, superior ergonomics and cutting-edge Fly Thru and Smart Fusion technologies, enabling clinicians to see what they have never seen before.
There is good news for the 27,000 plus people around the world who donate a kidney each year. A study which followed living kidney donors for 10 years found that they were at no greater risk for heart disease than the healthy general population.
