John Schlitt, director of the Pew Home Visiting Campaign, a project of the Pew Center on the States, issued the following statement today, commenting on maternal and infant home visiting provisions included in Health Care Reform legislation as passed by the 111th United States Congress. The bill establishes a $1.5 billion federal grant program for evidence-based state home visitation for new and expectant families.

ReSearch Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (RPS) announced today it has entered into an agreement to sell the company to affiliates of Warburg Pincus, LLC, the global private equity firm, in an all cash transaction valued at $6.10 per share. The Board of Directors of RPS unanimously approved the acquisition agreement and recommended that RPS shareholders approve the transaction. It is presently anticipated that closing of the transaction will occur in February 2011.
Research reported in The Lancet this week details the second case of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) infection that was probably caused by blood transfusion. The rogue prion responsible for vCJD was identified at postmortem five years after an elderly person received a blood transfusion from a donor who later developed vCJD.
