IDEXX Laboratories, Inc., today reported that revenues for the first quarter of 2010 increased 14% to $268.5 million, from $236.5 million for the first quarter of 2009. Organic revenue growth, as defined below, was 9%. Earnings per diluted share for the quarter ended March 31, 2010 increased 28% to $0.55, compared to $0.43 for the same period in the prior year.
Two studies from an unusual research partnership at the University of Chicago appear to have resolved a long-standing dispute about the role of melanin in the eye. The studies, one published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) and one early online in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), also suggest a new way to prevent a common cause of blindness.

Gilead Sciences, Inc. today announced that its head-to-head Phase III clinical trial of Cayston (aztreonam for inhalation solution) versus tobramycin inhalation solution in cystic fibrosis patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa achieved one of its co-primary endpoints of non-inferiority for mean percent change in forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) percent predicted after 28 days of treatment.
