IDEXX Laboratories' first-quarter 2010 revenues increase 14% to $268.5M

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc., today reported that revenues for the first quarter of 2010 increased 14% to $268.5 million, from $236.5 million for the first quarter of 2009. Organic revenue growth, as defined below, was 9%. Earnings per diluted share for the quarter ended March 31, 2010 increased 28% to $0.55, compared to $0.43 for the same period in the prior year.

New way to prevent macular degeneration

Two studies from an unusual research partnership at the University of Chicago appear to have resolved a long-standing dispute about the role of melanin in the eye. Gilead Sciences, Inc. today announced that its head-to-head Phase III clinical trial of Cayston (aztreonam for inhalation solution) versus tobramycin inhalation solution in cystic fibrosis patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa achieved one of its co-primary endpoints of non-inferiority for mean percent change in forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) percent predicted after 28 days of treatment.
