An interesting new study describes the activities of a family of viral enzymes called two-histidine-phosphoesterases (2H-PEs), found in coronaviruses (CoVs) and rotaviruses, as well as a mammalian A-kinase anchoring protein enzyme, AKAP7, that shares the same function. Together called 2',5'-PEs, these enzymes all break down 2',5'-oligoadenylate compounds that activate the antiviral enzyme ribonuclease L (RNase L).

The four software packages make electron microscopes more useful for life science researchers involved in structural, cellular and tissue biology as they build the full solution from sample to biological answer.
According to new research, persons getting less amounts of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep may be at greater risks of developing dementia. The study entitled "Sleep architecture and the risk of incident dementia in the community" was published yesterday in the online issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
Pregnancy and infancy are the periods of greatest vulnerability to the use of household insecticides. This is one of the findings of the first study of its kind to be carried out in Spain, which concludes that more than half of expectant mothers routinely use these chemical compounds.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today announced that it has awarded 83 grants in FY2009 totaling $17.5 million to state and local regulatory agencies to boost food and feed safety initiatives among federal, state, and local partners.
