UT Southwestern Medical Center has launched the local arm of a national, multicenter study aimed at finding more effective treatments for alcoholic hepatitis, a disease of the liver that often leads to cirrhosis and death in severe cases.
Researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine have illuminated the path taken by human neural stem cells that were transplanted into the brains of rats and mice, and found that the cells successfully navigate toward areas damaged by stroke.
Stroke patients can be up to twice as likely to commit suicide compared with the rest of the population, and the risk of attempted suicide is highest within the first two years after a stroke. These are the findings of a study from Umeå University published in the journal Neurology.
