DFine, Inc., a developer of minimally invasive solutions for treating vertebral compression fractures, announced today that the United States Patent & Trademark Office has issued Patent 7,678,116 relating to the StabiliT® Vertebral Augmentation System. Two additional Notices of Allowance have also been issued with patents expected later this year.
University of Illinois scientists have evidence that lifelong exposure to genistein, a bioactive component in soy foods, protects against colon cancer by repressing a signal that leads to accelerated growth of cells, polyps, and eventually malignant tumors.
Retrieval of larger thrombi during intra arterial treatment (IAT) is associated with improved neurological recovery after acute ischaemic stroke, according to a sub study of the MR CLEAN trial presented at ESC Congress today by Dr Anouchska Autar, PhD candidate at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The Obama administration issued regulations yesterday addressing a top consumer gripe with health insurers: The rejected claim. "Rejection notices are often unclear, as are the procedures for challenging them." The new regulations are "designed to simplify the process and expand consumers' rights, as required by the recently enacted healthcare law." Current appeals rules differ by insurer. The regulations will standardize the process, allowing consumers to first take their complaints to the insurer, and then to an independent review panel (Levey, 7/22).
Taro Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. today announced that the Supreme Court of the State of Israel (the "Supreme Court") has ruled that Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. ("Sun") may not exercise a warrant to purchase additional Taro shares while a previously ordered temporary injunction remains in effect.
