To reduce the toxicity of cigarette smoke, tobacco companies have introduced "harm reduction cigarettes," often marketed as safer than conventional brands.
A team of scientists, led by Stuart Lipton, M.D., Ph.D., professor and director of the Neuroscience and Aging Research Center at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, recently discovered why cerebellar granule cell neurons in patients suffering from ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) were unable to repair DNA damage and thus died.
Delivering on its commitment to develop and expand minimally invasive surgery technologies and capabilities, Medtronic plc announced the launch of its Signia Stapling System. The latest addition to the company's MIS portfolio, the Signia system provides surgeons with real-time feedback and automated responses to that real-time data.
Haemonetics Corporation, a global blood management solutions company, and Engineering and Research Associates Inc. (known as "SEBRA(R)"), a leading provider of blood and medical manufacturing technologies, announced today that Haemonetics has acquired the assets of SEBRA's blood collection and processing business for $12.5 million cash. The acquisition is expected to close within the next several weeks.
A project which is using robots to help children with developmental or cognitive impairments to interact more effectively has just started at the University of Hertfordshire.
