Edison Pharmaceuticals today announced that the United States Food and Drug Administration granted Fast Track designation to EPI-743, the company's lead drug, for the treatment of Friedreich's ataxia. EPI-743 is being developed for pediatric and adult mitochondrial disease, including Friedreich's ataxia.
Effective care and prevention strategies have managed to reduce the spread of HIV in the U.S. and other resource-rich countries. But in sub-Saharan Africa, where more than 25 million are infected, the epidemic rages — as does the debate over how to stop it.
Zogenix, Inc. announced today that the underwriters of its recently completed initial public offering of common stock have partially exercised their option to purchase shares of common stock from Zogenix to cover over-allotments. The sale of additional shares is expected to close on December 27, 2010.
A five-year, $2.7 million grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences will help researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago answer basic questions about the role of arsenic in the development of diabetes and examine the mechanisms by which selenoproteins – found in the human body in 25 different forms – counter the effects of arsenic.
