Medicare pays hundreds of millions of dollars each year for prescription creams, gels and lotions made-to-order by pharmacies — mainly as pain treatments. But a new report finds that officials are concerned about possible fraud and patient safety risks from products made at nearly a quarter of the pharmacies that fill the bulk of those prescriptions.
The continuing sluggish economy is forcing a growing number of large U.S. employers to take more aggressive measures to control rising health care costs and motivate workers to take charge of improving their own health, according to a survey conducted by Towers Watson, a global professional services company, and the National Business Group on Health, a non-profit association of large U.S. employers.
Covidien plc today announced financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 2014. Second-quarter net sales of $2.60 billion increased 3% from the $2.53 billion in the second quarter a year ago. Operational sales growth was 4% in the second quarter, as foreign exchange rate movement lowered the quarterly sales growth rate by just over one percentage point.
Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines have partnered with two Puget Sound-based non-profit organizations, Seattle Alliance Outreach and Evangelical Africa Mission Outreach, to transport 7,300 pounds (3,311 kilograms) of medical and educational supplies to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on a newly delivered 777-300ER (Extended Range) airplane.
