A new report suggests that improved health care and significant reductions in drug costs might be attained by breaking up the age-old relationship between physicians and drug company representatives who promote the newest, more costly and often unnecessary prescription drugs.
Women who reported eating diets rich in oils containing alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) seemed to have a lower risk of dying from heart disease and sudden cardiac death than women whose diets are low in the plant-derived fatty acid, researchers reported at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2004.
Schizophrenia is a chronic and disabling brain disorder that affects 1 percent of the U.S. population and results in substantial medical and societal costs, in particular from use of health-care resources. It also can have devastating health-related and social effects on people with the disease, their families and caregivers.
The BCG vaccine, a vaccine originally made against tuberculosis, has a general stimulating effect on the immune system and is therefore effective against multiple infectious diseases - possibly also against COVID-19.
