Warner C. Greene, MD, who directs virology and immunology research at the Gladstone Institutes, has joined with other global AIDS experts to release a locally affordable version of the world's leading AIDS medical textbook. Designed specifically for regions that today are hardest hit by the disease, this new text is the latest weapon in a growing arsenal aimed at curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS worldwide.
Many people with obesity can lose weight for a few months, but 80%–95% regain their lost weight eventually. One explanation for this limited long-term success is that reducing caloric intake triggers several biological systems that drive us to eat high-calorie foods and gain weight.
The Associated Press: "While Democrats hail the sweeping legislation as the greatest expansion of the social safety net since Medicare, they also fear that seniors won't see it that way for this fall's elections. Indeed, Republicans have portrayed the overhaul as a raid on Medicare — a bedrock of retirement security — to provide money to pay for covering younger, uninsured workers and their families.
Regular exercise seems to reduce anger expression in overweight but otherwise healthy children, researchers said.
Neuralstem, Inc. (NYSE MKT: CUR) announced that the final results from the Phase I safety trial using NSI-566 spinal cord stem cells in the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease) were published in the peer-reviewed journal, "Annals of Neurology".
