Gastrointestinal stroma tumours (GIST) are a very particular challenge for cancer research. For once the tumours, which are mostly located in the stomach, are relatively rare (approx. 100 new cases/year in Austria) and hence are difficult to research. On the other side its behaviour varies quite a lot. While some GIST tumours are relatively harmless, others may become metastatic.
Meridian Bioscience, Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio today announced that the company has been granted a Special 510(k) clearance to update the TRU FLU package insert to include analytical sensitivity claims with two strains of 2009 H1N1 virus cultured from positive respiratory specimens. TRU FLU is a rapid test which identifies influenza A and B in human specimens.
The journal CHEST recently published an important update to the 2014 consensus statement by the Task Force for Mass Critical Care (TFMCC) on providing mass critical care utilizing research gained through experiencing the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.
This cheap over-the-counter drug can be used not only for fever, pain and arthritis, but to prevent heart attack, stroke or angina. It also may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. Yet aspirin also has side effects worth considering, and its very accessibility may hamper its use.
The Editor-in-Chief of Cancer Investigation and one of the country's most respected medical policy professors has written a new commentary which criticizes proposed changes to breast cancer screening.
