ISPOR, the professional society for health economics and outcomes research- second plenary session at ISPOR Europe 2019, "Shaping the Digital Healthcare System," was held this morning in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Parkinson's disease symptoms begin subtly and worsen as damage to certain brain cells continues. But an electrical stimulation device implanted deep in the brain and programmed remotely, along with medications, may provide some control of "motor symptoms" common to the disease, such as shaking, stiffness, and loss of muscle control.
When hospital patients have to be readmitted soon after discharge, hospitals look bad. A high readmission rate also can result in reduced Medicare reimbursements. But a study of spine surgery patients has found that the standard method used to calculate readmission rates is a misleading indicator of hospital quality.
Discovery Laboratories, Inc., a biotechnology company developing its novel, synthetic, peptide-containing surfactant, is providing an update regarding its efforts to file a Complete Response intended to gain U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) marketing authorization of Surfaxin® for the prevention of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature infants.
