A government report says that clinical trials for new medicines are taking too long and should be sped up so patients can access urgently needed treatment. The states and territories have been urged to adopt uniform rules on approving trials so the scientific experiments can be conducted more efficiently and effectively.

The mosquito-borne Rift Valley fever virus has been linked to miscarriage in humans. A study of 130 pregnant Sudanese women with fever showed that the risk of miscarriage was seven times greater if the woman was infected with Rift Valley fever virus.
Latest findings showed that for the first time "normal" beat out "overweight." The survey however found that 61.6% of Americans were in the categories of either "overweight" or "obese". The survey found 35.8 percent of Americans to be overweight, compared with 36.0 percent a year ago, and 25.8 percent obese, down from 26.6 percent last year.
