Scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) have been awarded approximately $1.2 million from the U.S. National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health to identify, test and develop a series of drug candidates for a number of diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease and several neurodegenerative disorders.
By pairing an award-winning remote-detection version of NMR/MRI technology with a unique version of chromatography specifically designed for microfluidic chips, researchers with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) have opened the door to a portable system for highly sensitive multi-dimensional chemical analysis that would be impractical if not impossible with conventional technologies.
The New York Times reports that "recent reports of women being coerced into late-term abortions by local officials have thrust China's population control policy into the spotlight and ignited an outcry among policy advisers and scholars who are seeking to push central officials to fundamentally change or repeal a law that penalizes families for having more than one child."
"Each year, the United States spends more than $1.5 billion feeding starving people overseas," columnist Farah Stockman writes in a Boston Globe opinion piece. "But our charity comes with a catch: The food has to be bought in America, and much of it must be shipped on American ships," she continues, adding, "Researchers estimate that buying food closer to where needy people are costs about half as much."
American Oriental Bioengineering, Inc. today announced that the Company has launched a new product for the rhinitis and allergy market, called Jingwei Capsules ("Jingwei"). Jingwei will be manufactured by the Company's Boke subsidiary, and will be marketed throughout China utilizing AOBO's distribution network, including the Company's national hospital and pharmacy distribution network.
