Forest Laboratories, Inc. and Almirall, S.A. announced they have recently submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for aclidinium bromide, a long-acting inhaled antimuscarinic agent developed for the treatment of COPD.
The Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation, Boston, MA, today announced $3.5 million in neuroendocrine tumor research grants to fund 12 projects around the world in pursuit of more precise treatments for this uncommon cancer affecting an estimated 171,000 Americans.
Children with mild to moderate asthma do not benefit from a common practice of increasing their inhaled steroids at the first signs of an asthma exacerbation, according to clinical trial results published in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Walgreens today became the first retail store chain to expand its health care services to include diagnosing and treating patients for chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes and high cholesterol. The move is the retail industry's boldest push yet into an area long controlled by physicians, and comes amid continuing concerns about health care costs and a potential shortage of primary care doctors" (Appleby, 4/4).
