Nationwide Health Properties to redeem outstanding shares of Series B Preferred Stock

Nationwide Health Properties, Inc. announced today that it has given notice that it is redeeming all of its outstanding shares of 7.75% Series B Cumulative Convertible Preferred Stock ("Series B Preferred Stock") (NHP-PB - CUSIP No. 638620302) on January 18, 2010 at a redemption price per share of $103.875 plus an amount equal to accumulated and unpaid dividends thereon to the redemption date ($0.3875), for a total redemption price of $104.2625 per share.

Medicare begins to reimburse for HIV screening

The Hartford Courant reports that "testing for the virus among those 65 and older lags far behind testing of other Americans, and experts say they worry that HIV cases in older adults go undiagnosed — some because of the stigma that the disease still carries, some because patients might dismiss the symptoms of the virus as signs of other conditions more frequently associated with aging and some because doctors can be hesitant to talk to older patients about sex or link their symptoms with HIV."

New drug mimics health effects of exercise, say researchers

Scientists have managed to mimic the health effects of exercise in mice, simply by using a pill, according to a study published in Cell Metabolism. The drug activated a genetic pathway that is triggered by running, which led mice to burn off more fat and increase their stamina levels, despite them being sedentary.
