Breast cancer awareness campaign launched by Samsung Electronics Europe

Samsung Electronics Europe has launched ‘Everybody's Doing It', an online campaign and website which is a call to action encouraging women in Europe to check for breast cancer and prevent the disease from spreading. By visiting www.morethantalk.eu women can find an instant community of support, a place to make pledges to raise further awareness and a place to view or forward a short viral movie called ‘Everybody's Doing It'; containing footage of eight women whose lives have been affected by breast cancer. The viral is intended to reach over 400,000 women - more than the number who are diagnosed with breast cancer in Europe every year.

Chemotherapy for breast cancer does more harm than good

A fundamental principle of medicine is: "first, do no harm." However, for doctors who treat breast cancer, this is easier said than done. Every year, almost 22,000 Canadian women are diagnosed with breast cancer - their treatment usually involves surgery to remove a tumour and then chemotherapy to reduce the risk of cancer returning.

Equatorial Guinea strengthens health facilities to boost access to reproductive health services

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea (Republica de Guinea Ecuatorial, along with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), is working to strengthen and equip health facilities throughout the country to boost access to reproductive health services. Global Solutions for Infectious Diseases ("GSID") announced today that a Phase III clinical trial of an investigational HIV vaccine regimen has been shown to be safe and modestly effective in preventing HIV infection. The double-blind, placebo controlled study was conducted in Thailand among more than 16,000 volunteers.
