A third of US women who take hormones at menopause are using compounded hormones, shows a new national survey. These women commonly-and mistakenly-think these hormones are safer and offer more benefits than FDA-approved therapies.
National Surgical Hospitals today announced that five of its specialty hospitals achieved the highest rankings among all hospitals in their respective states in the Consumer Reports' Patient Experience of Care Ratings that were published on August 3, 2009.
The researchers have found that nicotine activates a pathway in the brain that suppresses appetite. The study was published in the journal Science. The authors believe this discovery should lead to better diet drugs.
While studies have shown that cognitive therapy is an effective treatment for depression, it has still not been clear the role therapists' training and expertise plays in making treatment successful. A new study finds that depressed patients show more symptom improvement when their therapists more competently follow the guidelines for delivering cognitive therapy.
