Enzymes involved in breaking down fat can now be manipulated to work three times harder by turning on a molecular switch recently observed by chemists at the University of Copenhagen. Being able to control this chemical on/off button could have massive implications for curing diseases related to obesity including diabetes, cardio vascular disease, stroke and even skin problems like acne. But the implications may be wider.
FiberMedia, one of fastest growing providers of secure, geographically diverse datacenters and scalable managed services, finalized an agreement in April with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) to house their primary data production facility and provide related managed services within one of their four Metro New York City area datacenters. VNSNY first went into live production at the FiberMedia data center in August, and substantially all of VNSNY's information systems are operating at the FiberMedia facility as of September.
To lose weight, boost energy or soothe nerves, many consumers turn to dietary supplements. But some of these products contain undeclared substances. To protect consumers from taking something without their knowledge, scientists have developed a technique to determine what secret ingredients could be lurking in these supplements.
In an effort to increase HIV/AIDS awareness among drivers - particularly professional truck drivers, many of whom visit commercial sex workers while on the road - the Cambodian government plans to add questions about the disease to the driver's license exam administered by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Phnom Penh Post reports.
